Can You Sell Yourself?

This year I am taking two more classes (online) to satisfy my degree requirements.

Promotional Writing and Print Tech Advertising.

My first assignments for both these classes is to sell myself – no not my physical body! I am still getting the pervs reading my posts aren’t I?!

Anyway, I have to promote myself in a positive way – I would assume! I mean why would I want to describe myself as anything dull and boring – was that repetitive! Both classes expect me to be creative. I guess I need some work, because using dull and boring in the same sentence just won’t do! So I have my work cut out for me!

Well there you have it. I don’t have to blog for class this time around, but I will be doing my fair share of writing! As for advertising, I have to write a 30 second commercial about myself. Now that is going to be tricky! That is not the only tricky part of this class – seems he (as in the professor) wants us to get together as a group to form an ad “agency” for our final project.  This is tricky since I am from NYC area of NY and the college is in Buffalo – I don’t think I can do any road trips – not when I have kids to take care of. So I have to contact him to see if there is anyone from around here – slim chance – there is only 25 in the class.  So I am not sure what can be done. We shall see!

Channel Surfing

Last night I was watching TV. I don’t usually get the chance to do that.  I forgot what I used to watch! So I flipped through the channels. I started with Extreme Makeover Home Edition. Finally, an episode with a feel good attitude but the family got annoying after a while. I don’t mean to be harsh or anything, but I think if it was my family on TV – I wouldn’t want half of my personal life aired in such a way. But then again, I would be getting a brand new house so maybe it would be worth the bit of embarrassment!  So I watched that for a bit and flipped between that and “You’re the one that I want”, the reality show looking for the next Danny and Sandy for the Broadway musical, “Grease”.  I didn’t get that involved in it. It seems interesting enough.

By 9:00, I was watching “Desperate Housewives”, a show I have been following for a long period of time. I don’t believe I missed many episodes this season, despite my lack of time in front of the TV.  I just love Carlos and Gaby! And if that little girl isn’t just like her mother – poor Linette!  Speaking of girls being like their mother, I guess Julie is following in her mother’s footsteps as well.  Oh well, I guess it was inevitable – I mean who ever heard of a ‘good girl’ on a soap!  So a half hour goes by and finally “Apprentice LA” premieres.

One question – what planet is Martin from? Seriously – who dresses like this – I’ve never seen a lawyer appear in that fashion – not one that wants to be taken seriously anyway!  I was so relieved to see him be the first one out the door! I tell you one thing – Frank may not be too far behind. He may be good, but if he continues being whiny and boisterous, he may be the next to go. I like the fact that the winning team’s task manager is in the board room and I think Ivanka is doing a great job. Am I the only one who thinks she is like an overgrown child on the playground though? I had to laugh at the way she called Martin out! “OH no you didn’t!” It was as if she was actually saying, “Daddy, Martin shoved me off the swiiinnnggg. He wasn’t playing nice.” She makes a perfect tattle-tale! She is not afraid to speak up and say it like it is to her father – nice touch.

Not sure that I like the whole tent city idea – too much Survival meets Apprentice for me. The mansion is a nice touch though, better than the hotels. So I will be keeping my eye on this show this season as best I can. I have so much in my life – real life – that I don’t have much time for the TV.  I was real disappointed that “The Nine”, “Kidnapped” and “Six Degrees” all seemed to faulter – I liked the shows, but at least I am not a slave to the television watching them. What is really surprising is the fact that “Studio 60…” is still on! I mean, I tried to like this show, but I just cannot connect with the characters, especially the ones that are supposed to be the comics on the show – I think they are all terrible. I cannot believe the network is holding on to it. I hope they shake it up with the writing staff, because I too sort of want to see it work. I so much wanted to like the show, but as it is now, I can’t stand to watch another episode!

OK back to my real life now! So much to do. Anxiously awaiting the next wave of LOST episodes!

Some Spam Messages I Received!

I was cleaning out my Spam – all 153 of them and I came across these messages.  They have NOTHING to do with my post and they naturally have links to their site which sells items that I am not interested in. But I thought some were cute, so I thought I would share.  If you are one of these contributors, though, please stop!

One night a police officer was staking out a particularly rowdy bar for possible DUI violations. At closing time, he saw a fellow tumble out of the bar, trip on the curb, and try his keys in five different cars before he found his. Then he sat in the front seat fumbling around with his keys for several minutes. Everyone else left the bar and drove off. Finally he started his engine and began to pull away. The police officer was waiting for him. He stopped the driver, read him his rights and administered the Breathalyzer test. The results showed a reading of 0.0. The puzzled officer demanded to know how that could be.The driver replied, “Tonight I’m the designated decoy.”

Names On The Wall

One Sunday morning, the pastor noticed little Alex was staring up at the large plaque that hung in the foyer of the church. It was covered with names …and small American flags were mounted on either side of it.

The seven-year-old had been staring at the plaque for some time, so the pastor walked up, stood beside the boy, and said quietly, “Good morning, Alex.”

“Good morning,” replied the young man — still focused on the plaque.

“What is this?” Alex asked.

“Well, son, it’s a memorial to all the young men and women who died in the service.

“Soberly, they stood together, staring at the large plaque.

Little Alex’s voice was trembling .. and barely audible … when he asked, “Which service? … the 8:30 …. or the 11:00?”

HAPPY BIRTHDAY

60 years ago, a wonderful woman was born in Brooklyn!

And so was my mom!

Seriously…

Happy Birthday MOM – you are a blessing in my life. You taught me how to be the woman I am today, how to be the (hopefully) wonderful mother to my children – as you were to me. You are still a strong presence in my life. I hear your advice and wonder what you would do when I am faced with a dilemma.  Yes, you’ve made mistakes, but you admit them and from them I, too, have learned.

I am not perfect. I wasn’t the easiest to handle as a child. But I am proud of who I am. You never cease to express your pride in me and I appreciate your admiration. But please believe me when I say, I would not be half of who I am without you and dad by my side, encouraging, supporting and yes, even reprimanding me.

You taught me everything in life and in turn I am passing it on to my children. I only hope and pray that I am doing as good a job as you did for me.

I love you – always and forever.

May God always walk beside you and lift you up when you need the boost. May you always feel his presence and know that although some loved ones have left you, they live on in your heart and you don’t need to contact anyone to feel them close to you – just close your eyes and pray and God will lead you to happy memories and moments and you will feel their closeness again.

May you have many more birthdays to celebrate! For today, is the the first day of the rest of your life – make it fulfilling!

I love you, Elaine

My Annual Christmas Card

No – not posting a picture up here.  Although I must say they are 2 of the best looking youngsters around! But I may be partial!

My cousin thinks I tortured my son (14) by taking his picture in front of our tree for out annual card. He was beside his sister (11).  They insisted on adding our dog – see my avatar – in the picture as well!

Let’s just say Wolf was the most cooperative of the 3!

Seriously, my kids just don their outfits – they wore jeans, and a shirt. My son wore a red sweater and my daughter a white t-shirt that read “dear Santa, I want it ALL” – it was very appropriate! They were barefoot and stood in front of our decorated tree.

Naturally, the picture captured their entire body. But thanks to modern technology and the workings of my photoshop program, I cropped the picture to just their torso and the dog’s upper body! You couldn’t tell they were in jeans and had nothing on their feet! I ordered my cards through Costco online and the next day they were out in the mail! Most of the recipients received their cards just in time on December 23rd! (I am very last minute!)

Now I pose my question – is 14 too old for a picture card? What is the proper age to end? My kids don’t seem to mind, but are they secretly being tortured!

And one more question – how do you feel when you get those pictures as a card? What are your reactions – do you like it or are you repulsed by it. AND while we are on topic – what do you think about “letters” included in your cards – you know the ones – where they tell you what they have been up to the past 12 months!

Please respond – I really am curious – and so is Kat!
